Enjoy an afternoon of light opera in the “Park” (courtyard in front of the Old Arts Building). Bring your lawn chair or blanket and enjoy the beautiful lyricism of music written by Friml, Romberg, Léhar and Strauss as we bask in the afternoon sun. If it happens to be windy or rainy we’ll simply move inside to enjoy this wonderful concert of light opera including famous songs from The Merry Widow, The Student Prince and The Desert Song.

During the late 18th and early 19th centuries, composers wrote music to embellish existing poetry. These songs were written for voice and piano accompaniment. Today, these beautiful pieces allow listeners to experience the beauty and diversity of the voice as they bring some of the world's greatest poetry to life.

The Edmonton Journal Intro to the Operas

This opera primer, featuring NUOVA artists performing excerpts from each production, will broaden your understanding of the opera stories, characters and the composers.
